14 january 10 -- six months since last chemo treatment went to SF to see dr.Chan for my 6-month checkup. stayed with diane in sausalito, tho not for as long as i had been hoping. i was gonna make it a long visit, we were going to go to a play at ACT, & the new natural history museum, & maybe the deYoung. BUT the haiti earthquake happened & i couldn't tear myself away from CNN for a couple days. plus friend michele's memorial was scheduled for saturday & i really had to come back for that. so only 2 nites. thursday nite diane, jane, & lissa took me to their favorite japanese restaurant, fukusuke in larkspur. a lovely dinner!

15 january lissa had an appointment in the city on friday late afternoon, so she took me into the city. she waited for me while i saw dr.chan, & actually met people she knew in the waiting room!
she didn't mind waiting (good thing! as usual, i didn't see dr.Chan til 2 hours after my scheduled appointment), she always has her sketchbook... when i did finally get in to see him, dr.Chan actually remembered me (out of thousands!), & was very upbeat as we talked. he remembered that he told me i would get rid of the cancer if i did the chemo; and after looking up inside to check on the surgery scar, he was leafing thru the file, reading the blood test results, & said almost offhandedly, with a big smile, "o, you're cured!" well, i loved hearing that! will still have to get checkups every 3 months, but i may as well be as confident as he is that the cancer's all gone! |

rest of the winter... i do have to keep reminding myself that i haven't recovered from chemo yet, & i try to be patient as i regain my strength. still can't do as much as i'm used to doing, staying home a lot more (tho i still haven't caught up with housework!). but that's ok, not spending as much money on movies & plays & eating out etc, and i'm trying to plan for a trip back to new orleans & kentucky this summer... |
