Nice to see some other Lyalls visiting. I passed thru Vancouver in July. Went with ti-roxanne to Alberta to a wedding of some Haitian friends. Spent a little time in front of the bus station in Vancouver. Pretty town, but the street people situation looks an awful lot like california.

Oh, hey. There was a Tonton(uncle) Lyall in Port-au-Prince. He left two children there who went to the usa. Some big house in the Bourdon district is known as the Tonton Lyall house.

You seem to idealize Soviet Union too much. You forget that 60 million of my Russian people were killed by the communists, and I find any adoration of the KPCC and communist ideology very offensive. You would not admire nazis, would you?

I stumbled across your website just now...I didn't realize there were so many Lyalls out there. My maiden name is Lyall, but sadly, I don't know much about my ancestory. I do know that my branch of Lyalls is from the Virginia/Maryland area. My grandfather was Elmer Grady Lyall and he married my grandmother, Mona Sybil from England. Any chance that there is a connection here?

Ms Stanifer: The Reed Store is for Lily, yes. I lived in Lily in 1952. I was three years old and I do recall visiting old Grant Reeds' store. The road was mud most of the time but the wooden sidewalk was a friendly place. Charles Robert lived next door to the Reed Store. I played with him.

I noticed on your website a picture of the ReedStore in Lily Kentucky. Are you in somehow related to the Reeds? I have been researching the Reed family in Lily Ky for some time. Grant Reed and Pierce Reid. Their father was Franklin Reid mother was Jenette Carmack. Also Paragin families who were also in Lily and Keavy I believe.

O world, I cannot hold thee close enough!

Thy winds, thy wide grey skies!

Thy mists, that roll and rise!
Thy woods, this autumn day, that ache and sag
And all but cry with colour! That gaunt crag
To crush! To lift the lean of that black bluff!
World, World, I cannot get thee close enough!

Long have I known a glory in it all,

But never knew I this:

Here such a passion is
As stretcheth me apart,—Lord, I do fear
Thou'st made the world too beautiful this year;
My soul is all but out of me,—let fall
No burning leaf; prithee, let no bird call.

Hi there David!
came across your web site from the Jialing usa web site.
I got to really like the brand when I bought a JH125L trail bike as few years ago. I live in the Midlands of England.
We are seeing a few dealerships setting up, mainly stocking three models, the 125cc JH125E Dragon, the 125B Fleetstar and the JH125L, as well as some of the smaller 'lings.
I've been talking with a motorcycle enthusaiast who is wanting to start a Jialing dealership and import some of the more exotic models including the JH70E street cruiser.
I've read of your fascinating trip to Haiti where you put the JH100 through its paces on the poor Haitian roads. The roads here in this part of England aren't that much better either...my present 21 year old Super Dream was never designed to cope with these roads and is being shaken to bits over the potholes! The Jialing trail bike was superb for this kind of road terrain... the long-throw suspension soaks up the bumps...o to own one again...
Anyway, in parting I want to wish you and all the Lyall's a happy new year!

Matt

A Jialing enthusiast.

Dear David;
Thankyou for your letter and photos. Nice to hear from you and your website is really interesting.
We are very well - still in the same place in Victoria and with Lonny now for 12 years! Wow. We are travelling alot, have a private practice both doing Hellerwork and this year closed our school for training Hellerworkers after 8 years. With many friends here life is rich and good.
We have had extensive travel in Mexico over the last few years. And this year went to Italy, Sardinia, New York City and Baja, California. A few years ago went to Costa Rica and New Zealand another year. It's been great.
Hallie is in L.A. and it was her on the cover of Discover mag. you saw.
You can now see her at creepysites.com - she is Julie.
and/or voyeurchallenge.com Please vote for her on this one everyday if you can this week. Every vote counts.
She had a national commercial this year Babe Ruth and has been in a number of music videos (lou vega -pretty pretty) and small parts in movies. She is a Capricorn and is climbing the mountain step by step. She is really strong and wonderful and I'm very proud of her.
Please stay in touch and all the best with your house and Haiti. What is your email address? I can't find it on the website.
Love Helen (aka. Maureen I changed it 13 years ago back to my first name)

Well!
Made it to your site. Haven't yet visited the entire labyrinth, but I will...a few tasty morsels per visit. Impressive! Especially to a computer-bozo like myself. I feel lucky every time I successfully turn the machine on and get ANYWHERE on the net! (Well...it's not really luck. Placate a few pagan God's for the privilege of surfing. Minor insect sacrifices are all that's required.)
Seriously, though; fun, informative, pleasantly risque (is there an ' mark somewhere above risque?)visual links, and some personal info on the always mysterious J. Daudi...nice variety on your site. Sabrina-WOW!
Better stop my aimless chattering. It's becoming clear to me I NEED to get a job SOON. All this free time is warping my mind. Hope to see you before I move.

Hey David,
I haven't seen your mug around town lately. What's up with
that? Are you staying hold up at the rancho?
Ran into Carol King and Alan Brill last week.
My daughter, April, and their daughter, Jenna, are the same
age and they attended Cazadero Music Camp together the week
of June 21-26, 1999. April studied voice for the week and
Jenna studied violin. Carol and Alan found us in the crowd
after April's choral performance and Carol
commented on how much she enjoyed hearing the choral group.
It was nice to see our union sister and brother from the
early days of Local 23.
Hope to see you soon. Love, C

Hello darlin',
Thanks for the e-mail notice re:your kanaval site. I was
showing it to my coworker, Gerry Oorthuys, a paratransit van
driver here at UCSC Transportation. Gerry is also studying
html currently and he is very impressed with your webpages.
I've been hearing rumblings from the busvine about the
upcoming UTU Local 23 elections. I'd like to hear the latest
on that from you. Looks like the UCSC Grad Students may be
putting up a picket line at the base of campus beginning
on the 16th of November 98. Route 1 drivers may be getting
extended holdovers at the base of campus again. Here is a
music tip for you ... check out the Asylum Street Spankers.
At Michael Mawson's behest I went with Michael to see
them at Kuumbwa on Halloween night. A very fab funky 10 piece
swing/blues group out of Austin, Texas, currently being
produced by Bob Brozman, after the band dropped the
Watermelon record label. I called John Sandidge of Snazzy
Productions yesterday to find out when he would be bringing
them back to Santa Cruz. Sleepy John reported that the ASS
would be back Santa Cruz and Monterey for First Night.
We heard some mighty fine banjo, saw, fiddle, steel and
six string guitar, clarinet and harmonia work from these
folks and recommend them highly for those who enjoy
eclectic music.

Comments: Hi! Remember me? You and Silvi stayed at my apartment upon arrival in Nairobi. Just wanted to let you know that my office staff and I enjoyed your observations on Kenya. We couldn't connect earlier because of phone line problems, power outages, limited RAM capacity, and a few other potholes on the information highway. Oh well, better late than never. Silvi got off okay and is now probably sailing along the coast of Comoros or Madagascar as I write this. After a bus trip to Mombasa, an overnight train ride to Nairobi, and several taxis, she managed to get her Lamu chest to the airport for shipment to California. After all that hassle, she says she will now have to buy a house where she can keep it and have children who can inherit it. All the reason the stick to Kenyan coffee as souvenirs. My contract ends in September. I expect to be in the Bay Area at Christmas. May give you a call then. Cheers, Bob

I'm interested to know why you suggest a Vespa - I'll be going to southern Africa next year and hope to buy a s'hand bike but was thinking Japenese, old but reliable. However good to hear other opinions. What sort of bikes do you have at home? I have 2 Italian bikes which I love but would not choose for trekking round the Centre here let alone Africa. i enjoyed reading your travelogue at http://www2.cruzio.com/~dlyall/africa.html but don't know if I'll get as far north as Kenya - I'll be in Africa only Feb to May and intend to spend some of that time doing some voluntary work arranged through a Trade Union organisation.
